Recipes normally tell you what temperature to set the oven to, that’s the temperature you pre heat it to. How long it takes depends on the oven, and every oven I’ve ever seen has a ‘ready’ light – a small light that goes on when you turn the oven on and only goes off once the oven reaches the required temperature.

If your recipe doesn’t mention a temperature, go for 180C – everything pretty much will cook at that temperature.

depends what sort of cake it is! for a simple sponge, usually around 30 mins at 180c. as for preheating, most ovens have a light on to show when they are up to temperature? if you’re using a gas oven, it will be hot almost instantly.

Set up oven to 180 degrees. It may take up to 10 minutes before oven is hot enough.

The temperature depends on the type of cake being baked. The duration is the time it takes the oven to come up to temperature plus 5 – 10 minutes.

Not all ovens are precisely calibrated for temperature so you may need to adjust the temperature setting a bit NEXT TIME depending on results. If you’re making a box cake, read the box. If from scratch, look at a box cake box while shopping for ingredients and read it. It will have some useful generic information.

Most recipes call for 350 degrees. The time would depend on your oven. I suggest about 15 minutes for a standard, not too old oven.

The “exact” temperature is the one your recipe indicates. The duration will be as long as it takes YOUR oven to pre-heat.

    DUH.
